Ancient Rock Golem for portfolio, 2013

Concept, model and textures by Jordan Powers

Originally, I was going to have this little guy covered in crystals, almost forming a prison of sorts. Then I decided that it would be neat to have him “deactivated” in a jungle-like setting. Whether the overgrowth is feeding off the magic or keeping the golem in stasis — the plants really help tell that story.

I want this guy and Shale to be besties.

Once again stressing that this is how I do things, not how you should do things. I mean, you can if you want. But it’s entirely a personal thing, as art should be! Always look at other people’s art, as they will come up with poses you hadn’t even thought of and generally broaden your mind.

Here are some useful links:

pixelovely has photos of life drawing poses and a system that cycles through them like a real life drawing class! You can also pick whether you want just men or women, or just nude or clothed, or both.

posemaniacs has tons of 3D models in poses. They’re shown on the muscle layer of things so that you can see how the muscles work! All models can be rotated 360 degrees, and come in varying degrees of camera angles from top to bottom. They also have a fantastic hand viewer which has hands that can be rotated along all axes, although there’s a limited selection of poses and the anatomy of the hands themselves could use some work.

Some great stock providers on deviantArt include SenshiStock aaaand… I can’t find the others right now. I’ll edit this post when I do!

The last things, admittedly, in order of most to least dangerous, were: more Sela Petrae, for old times’ sake; a dragon’s eyeball, very shiny; special pair of torn trousers, once belonging to Maferath apparently, and haunted by no fewer than six opportunistic spirits; empty bottle (it was not, it turns out, so empty after all); shiny ring (of ancient power; Anders kept disappearing when putting it on); funny colored leaf (also haunted, who knew); shiny pebble (also, somehow, a dragon’s eyeball, now what are the odds?); and a box of yummy smelling incense (not incense).

‘A thing with feathers,’ Hawke says.

Anders capitulates.

‘I look like the back end of a phoenix,’ Anders says.

‘Yes,’ Hawke replies. ‘A sexy phoenix.’

Anders’ new specialization tree in DA3 will include a wide AOE spell called “Fabulous, Bitches.”
